Graduate Program Description

Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology

This program of study is the largest doctoral program in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at the University of Ottawa. The University of Ottawa was one of the first Canadian universities to establish training in clinical psychology, having begun in 1941. The doctoral program in clinical psychology at the University of Ottawa is the only bilingual program accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association (Accreditation Office, Canadian Psychological Association, 141 Laurier Avenue West, Suite 702, Ottawa, ON  K1P 5J3, accreditationoffice@cpa.ca, 613-237-2144 x 328 or 1-888-472-0657 x 328). The next site visit is due in 2012-13. Training is offered in a scientist-practitioner model of psychological service, with a special emphasis on evidence-based interventions. An integral part of the clinical program is the Centre for Psychological Service and Research, whose mission is to deliver psychological services to the general population of the region, to provide training to doctoral students in clinical psychology, and to facilitate research. Students are supervised by full-time professors who are licensed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario.

Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology

Welcome to the graduate program in experimental psychology!

Our goal is to train researchers in specialized areas including Behavioural NeuroscienceCognitionDevelopmental Psychology andSocial/Community. Additional training opportunities are also offered by the researchers at the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research. We provide high-tech laboratories, which are maintained by the School’s technical team.

Interdisciplinary Program

The Graduate Diploma in Program Evaluation was created in 2006 as an interdisciplinary program of the Faculty of Education and theSchool of Psychology in the Faculty of Social Sciences offered in English and in French. The mission of the program is to offer advanced training in program evaluation to individuals in the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors so that they are able to conduct their own program evaluations of a high quality.

The first cohort of this program started in September 2006. Admission to the program will be possible for the Fall session only.
